چکیده

In this paper, we present an example of control system design based on negative imaginary (NI) system theory. The system under consideration is an optical cavity system. A dynamical model of the cavity system is obtained through system identification of applied to experimental input output frequency response data obtained using a digital signal analyzer (DSA). The identified model satisfies NI property. An integral resonant controller is designed based on the NI system theory.

Measurement of Mirror Birefringence at the Sub-Ppm Level: Proposed Application to a Test of QED

We present detailed considerations on the achievable sensitivity in the measurement of birefringence using a high finesse optical cavity, emphasizing techniques based on frequency metrology. Alternative approaches of laser locking and cavity measurement techniques are discussed and demonstrated. High-precision measurements of the cavity mirror birefringence have led to the interesting observati...

Mono-Mono-Mono and Bi-Bi-Bi three-layer graphene systems’ optical conductivity

Investigating the longitudinal optical conductivity of graphene systems, which is the mostimportant property for opto-electronic devices, for three-layer graphene systems theoretically and numerically is the main purpose of this study. Each layer can be mono- or bi-layer graphene. Separation between layers has been denoted by d, selected to be about ten nanometers. The carrier densities i...

Position measurement of a cavity mirror using polarization spectroscopy

A high-reflectivity coated mechanical silicon oscillator with high quality value of the mechanical resonance was employed as a planar rear mirror in a Fabry–Perot interferometer. Active stabilization of the interferometer improves the stability of the resonance and makes it possible to perform sensitive interferometric measurements. The frequency locking of lasers to optical cavities requires t...

Polarization-selectable cavity locking method for generation of laser Compton scattered γ-rays.

Nowadays, generation of energy-tunable, monochromatic γ-rays is needed to establish a nondestructive assay method of nuclear fuel materials. The γ-rays are generated by collision of laser photons stored in a cavity and relativistic electrons. We propose a configuration of an enhancement cavity capable of performing polarization control fabricated by a combination of a four-mirror ring cavity wi...

Frequency Locking of an Optical Cavity using LQG Integral Control

This paper considers the application of LQG integral control theory to a problem of cavity locking in quantum optics. The cavity locking problem involves controlling the error between the laser frequency and the cavity frequency. A model for the cavity system, which comprises of a piezo-electric actuator and an optical cavity is determined in the frequency domain using a subspace identification...
